HAUNTED 2

CHAPTER 3

I was totally not myself all through the lecture period of that day. I was so lost in trance and imagination.

‘Have you ever wondered how some things happen to you with no meaningful explanation to it?’
That exactly was the way I felt that particular day. But I said to myself

“I got this, I surely got this”
After the lecture hours, I headed home straight not even minding the abuse am going to get from my friends.
Normally, we do hang out at the end of every day hard work. We do catch up on gist about lecturers, course mates, girls and the general social trending subjects. But that day, my mood was totally off.
I got home, went straight to my room without my normal ‘neighbor amebo’ gist and locked the door just to have a good lone time to myself.

“This can’t be heard of. Who is going to believe I can’t remember a whole 3 days of my life. That’s like a total blackout. But no matter what, I will get to the root of this” I said to myself.
I managed to get something to eat and I immediately found my way into bed later that evening.

“Let’s wait for what the next day have in stock” I said to myself.

My belief was, after a good night rest, I might get some of my memory back. Nature called and slowly my eyes shut into darkness.

LATER  THAT SAME NIGHT...

My eyes suddenly opened, my heart beating faster and my temperatures rose up higher than the abnormal. Something woke me up. It’s the noise of some scattered things in my room.

“This rats again for Christ sake” I said to myself.

“Can’t they retire and just leave my room for once”.

The problem is, I have roommates who don’t pay the house rent with me. I don’t also know their names just because they are not humans but rats.

The only thing rats don't do in my villa is read books. Who knows if they read books, they would have known little courtesy. But every other thing we do, they do. We eat noodles, they eat more noodles than we who bought it. We watch movies, well... I have seen a rat looking at my laptop screen once. And at that moment, I was watching a movie. Most rats all over the world tend to disturb at a particular time of the day. But in my villa, it’s always all day round.

We’ve tried so many measures to keep them in check but, an uncompleted bushy building next to us will never let them reduce in number.

I normally stand up whenever I hear noises like that before, but not anymore. Am so tired of these rats and I cannot allow them to kill me. So, what I normally do whenever I hear these noises is just to on the torchlight in that direction even with my eyes close, and they will stop. Once I off it again, they will start. So sometimes, all I do is on the torchlight all night long.

I woke up the next morning to re-arrange my room as usual when I noticed something unusual. Thou rats can scatter anything but they sure can’t throw my clothes down from the wardrobe even if they are very big.

‘It’s not just their style.’

I arranged them anyway. After all, I might have done that myself and probably forgotten. At least, am still trying to remember 3 lost days of my life.

The 2nd night, the same thing happened and I did the normal thing I always do, shine the torchlight at them and go back to sleep. But on the 3rd day, I decided to open my eyes and see what the problem with these rats really is.

Should I know what’s coming to me, I wouldn’t have opened my eyes because, what happened next changed everything.

HAUNTED

                                CHAPTER ONE

Panting and sweating profusely, I adjusted myself up on my bed. I just had a terrible nightmare. Still trying to suppress my fear, I fell back on the bed looking lost and confused. After getting myself a little, I searched for my phone to check the time.
“Where is my phone”? I muttered.
Trying to stand up to check the other corners of the room, I discovered I was completely naked. This is strange because I don’t sleep naked. Even if I want to, not completely naked with not even a boxer on. Then I noticed some other strange things that gave me more concern look. I can’t find my phone, I can’t find my laptop, my wrist watch and some of my clothes.
“Have I been robed”? That was the first question that came to my mind.
Even if I have been robbed, will the robbers also steal my cloth and I won’t even know?
“That can never be possible” I said to myself. Then I decided to check the most ridiculous thing I could ever have checked for. I checked my anus if there is any sign of you know… penetration. This is a new world where extreme strange things happen. So, you can’t blame me completely for doing such a thing.
Still confused about everything, I picked up the cloth I can get my hands on and aimed for the door to ask any of my neighbors if they noticed anything strange the previous night. It feels so strange to me thou.
How could I have forgotten everything that happened the previous day? It was like if someone formatted my memory.
I got to the door again to discover another complete season of another entire misery. The door was locked from outside.
“What!!! Are you kidding me? How possible is this?” This and so many other questions ran through my head like a stream of information transferring at a Giga hertz frequency speed.
What else to do, I banged the door hard, calling the names of my neighbors for help. Soon I got response from the other side of the door. Most questions were…
“Dude! When did you get back? Who locked you inside? Are you ok?”
Not minding any of their useless question, I asked them to help me with the door. They asked for the extra key which I have none. I told them to break it. Breaking the door, they all rushed inside asking me the same questions they asked before.
I told them “am still a lot confused about the whole situation”. I asked if the house was robbed and they all replied “no” and at the same time asking me “why?”
I had to tell them about my missing stuffs. Then Lizzy asked me, “When did you even get back?”
I replied, “Get back from where?” She looked at me and said,
“Seriously?” Leaving me with annoyance.
Lizzy happens to be my best friend and also my best neighbor. We know practically everything about each other, we do things together and people mistake our friendship for dating most time.
Still very confused about the whole issue, I decided to fix my door first before attending to other issues. Who can say, the robbers that can rob me without me noticing can still be around.
After the door was fixed, I immediately went to Lizzy’s room. With annoyance written all over her face, she snubbed me immediately I entered her room. I sat gently on her chair trying to prevent her from throwing things at me, and with extreme caution asked.
“What do you mean by when did I get back? We still saw last night right?”
She looked at me with a scornful look for some seconds. While she is doing that, I was preparing myself to either grab something to cover myself or run away from the room. She stopped and continued arranging the room that was already arranged.
Seeing the type of house cleaning she is doing, I knew I was in for it. I then decided to leave her to calm down with the intention of getting back to the matter later. And so, I left for school.

MY HOUSE HUNT WAHALA by Owei Elizabeth

MY HOUSE HUNT WAHALA by Owei Elizabeth

Scouring through a city I've never been to for an apartment is not something I wished to do by myself, unless I have all the free time in the world which apparently I didn't have.  I decided I would not end up making a decision by myself and be stuck with an apartment that I don't like for the whole school year. I never wanted to compromise on value for money, safety, location and convenience.

My name is Elizabeth. My mum had called earlier to find out if I had started the search, she knew I couldn't do this on my own and she felt sorry for not being able to accompany me. She promised I’d be fine and advised that I shine my eyes (which meant be conscious of the people that I dealt with). I had called a number I saw on a house hoping to get one of the apartments.

The man explained that he had other properties he could show me since the one I called for was above my budget. He said I was to pay a fee which would enhance the process, which I did. The next day I called, he didn’t pick my calls neither did he return them. I searched for another agent who will take me to see another house the next day. I waited at the spot where he told me we would meet, he never showed up. That was when I knew that #MyHouseHuntWahala had just started.

I decided to check the online platforms and I came across ToLet.com.ng   I had this feeling that I had gotten to my last bus-stop. I searched through the properties they put up for rent and found it easy to get a good apartment at a location closer to the school.  All I had to do was call the customer service and fix an appointment to see the property; I was not given any condition before I could see the house neither was I charged any fee.

The next day was when I would be seeing the house, I pondered if I would get the same treatment as I have received from other agents. That night, I got a text message with the details of the agent. I placed a call through to him to fix the meeting point and time and we came to a conclusion. It was easy to find Akoka bus-stop and I didn’t have to call the agent because he was already waiting for me to commence the inspection. I got there, found the place attractive.

It was a serene environment with ample parking space though I didn’t have a car. It also had all the nice things I’d want in a house and most importantly, it was within my budget. I wasted no time as I quickly paid for the house and was glad I used ToLet.com.ng.
So, #MyHouseHuntWahala got resolved by just using the Tolet.com.ng Platform.

My House Hunt Wahala (full story) by Ayodeji Abiyeye

Life always seem good when you have less to worry about they say. Yes! less to worry about. As a young man living with his elder brother in Oshodi, the commercial centre of Lagos state, I work as an intern in a company located at Ikeja with less transport fare compared to what i would have been spending if I were to be living with our parent at Sango, Ogun state. My brother on the other hand works with an international company located at Oshodi also. Which means, he spends lesser than me to get to work everyday. I also have less to worry about because my elder brother whom I live with resides in a room self contain, with the necessary home appliances that makes life easy and fun in it's own little way. Everything was soft and easy as they say and I live my life gently with less stress. After-all, its just the 2 of us in a room self contain. It is not too small for 2 guys if you may ask me. And like i said earlier, all was absolutely going fine with us until our Titanic ship hit the iceberg.

My brother is a womanizer. If womanizing is to be a course people study in higher institutions, I bet with you he wont just graduate as just the overall best student, but also with a 5.0 CGPA. That is how bad that talent exhibit itself in him.  But this time, his talent for chasing anything in skirts got him into trouble. Like the elders will always say it, whenever the guilty is being punished, the innocent with definitely take a share.

It was in a cool Saturday evening, I was relaxing inside the room, chatting on my phone when I heard the noise. It was someone knocking on the door. Oh my bad! did I just say 'knocking'? I meant to say banging. And when i mean 'banging', I mean banging like the fellow is going to break the damn door. I rushed to open the door angrily after shouting in annoyance 'wetin happen now, you wan tear the door abi?'. Revealing the culprit behind the door was so alarming. It was our landlady banging on our door like she is going to break it that very moment. Seeing her, I greeted her but without even waiting for me to finish my greeting, she shouted. Where is you brother! continuously with eyes searching the room like if he is hiding inside the walls. We were still on that when I saw her 2 sons approaching us looking like 2 KingKongs coming to save their female counterpart. I was still confused about the whole scenario when the 2 brothers grabbed me and 1 of them barked. Where is your brother! Immediately he asked, I knew very well my brother is in big trouble. They dropped me and entered the room to search for him. Not seeing him, they came out and they  threatened to kill him anytime they see him. Still confused and lost, I went back into the room. On getting inside my phone rang, it was my brother calling. I picked and he was panting and asking me so many stupid questions at the same time. Oh boy how far, you still dey house? Those were the questions my brother was asking me. The rest of his questions all sounded like a dog barking  to me, because I was still furious  at what the landlady and her imbeciles did to me. He didn't come home that night and I was cool with it. At least I have the whole house to myself.

Rise and shine came the second day with me yawning after a very good sleep. so much for the CNNolofofo.com.ng and the aproko nation wide association in our house to talk about.
I could hear some talking about it so, I decided to join them and asked what really happened. Thus I got to know my brother was caught with the landlady's last child. They were both caught kissing, smooching and doing other stuffs that needs not to be talked about. Supposing this girl is of a good age for that type of stuff, it wouldn't have been an issue. But the matter became an issue because she is just 16 years of age and everybody just couldn't stop talking about how shameless my brother is to have done that with her. Thou matters fade with time but, our landlady refuse to let the matter slide by. Eventually, this was what made them give us a quick notice to pack out with the assurance they will return our remaining rent fee. That was how we got ourselves into the house hunt wahala.

House hunting was hell compared to what I expected it to be like. When you want a house urgently, you tend to search without caution and, you might likely end up renting the house you won't actually like at the end of the day just because of a little impatience. On our House hunt kick off,  We actually got help from friends that gave us some local agents numbers, we found some on local advert billboards and some on online real estate platforms like Nigeria property center, Larmudi and Nigeria property market.

Combining the house hunt with work wasn't easy in any way. We had to find agents phone number through many means, walk a little bit to search on our own and we also wasted money going to check for houses that were seen for us by our friends. To be sincere, now I know stress can really make a man look twice as old as his normal age.
There was this time an agent took me and a friend to check a house out. On getting to the agent small office, he said we will need to pay his inspection fee before he can take us anywhere. After so much negotiation, we gave it to him with a bad look that could have killed him supposing looks were guns. Thou he saw the look we had before giving him the money but, it was so obvious he cared less. On getting to the house, we discovered the house has no fence, no water and the building is  so low and old. I got furious and requested for our money back, he tried being funny but I think he cared more about the look this time. He tried calming us down and then persuaded us to check another house he has, which is not far from that same area. We agreed and we left having a doubt this guy is not going to do better. Like it's a foreseen vision, our doubt was proved right. The house looks exactly like the twin brother of the other one we were coming from. That was how I lost it totally and demanded for my money back.  He showed a little swag saying no, telling us he can never give it back. To cut it short, I thank God am not in prison now just because of 3 thousand naira and a greedy agent. It was settled by some responsible people around anyway. We went our separate ways after sharing the money into half. It wasn't easy gaining back half of what i lost, but I made sure I did.

We made so many calls, wasted a lot of money and got so many disappointment after series of so many initial ones. There were so many other inspections we went for with each inspection costing us nothing less than 2 thousand naira. Its not about the money, but about the kind of house they take us to. There was this agent I crawled his number from larmudi to help us with house at Oshodi, on getting to the house, that's  after we've already paid the inspection fee, the landlord denied ever knowing the man. I should have detected the fraud before the miraculous and unexpected arrival of the landlord. All he was ranting about was how he forgot the entrance key with the landlord. If not because of God, we would have fallen into that trap easily. That is actually a very long story but thank God we were not arrested that day anyway.

We encountered so many agent issues like trust, time, and sincerity which almost made us give up. Thou we found an apartment at last but the money we spent, the stress and the energy that was wasted was quite enough to do other things in our life.

Shortly after this House hunt wahala, I got to know about Tolet.com.ng through a friend I shared my Pathetic story with. He told me about how Tolet.com.ng helped him in getting an apartment easily with no stress at all. He told me about how considerate their customer service is and how good their agents were. I decided to check them out on Tolet.com.ng. When I checked the site and saw the way they operate, it hurts me I had not known earlier. The coolest part is that all their properties have well descriptive images of the properties. That saves a lot of unnecessary inspection fee, gives you the pre-inspection service 3 thousand naira would have given you and also helps you make a quick decision. Had I known Tolet.com.ng before, my house hunt wahala would have just been fun, adventurous and educational instead of the loss of energy, time and money.
